Andrew Hurla, MS, ATC, CPTA

Physical Therapist Asst., Athletic Trainer

Andy joined the Russell Regional Hospital Rehabilitation Department in July of 2009. He has more than 25 years of experience; 26 as an Athletic Trainer and 9 as a Physical Therapist Assistant. Andy completed his Athletic Training education at Fort Hays State University (FHSU). He continued on at FHSU as a graduate assistant, earning a Master’s Degree in Health and Human Performance. His education did not stop there. Several years later, Andy attended Kent State University – Ashtabula and completed another Associates, becoming a Physical Therapist Assistant.

Prior to joining the RRH team, Andy worked at CHRISTUS St. Francis Cabrini Hospital in Alexandria, LA for 8 years in their sports medicine department. There, he had the opportunity to work with college athletes, high schools, and even some professional teams.

His drive continues through his work everyday as he likes to challenge his patients to perform to their full potential, whether it’s a PT patient or an athlete recovering from surgery, his goal is to find a way to help them reach the goals that are important to them.

Andy is also the Athletic trainer for Russell High School and really enjoys seeing how the athletes mature and develop over time and what they go on to do after high school. He enjoys building relationships with his patients as well. “You never know what little story or piece of advice a patient may have for you.”

In his free time, Andy continues his love of sports through his 2 teenage boys and his wife, Sarah of 25 years. He is an active volunteer with his church, including religious education, and Boy Scouts.
