Day Shift, Emergency Dept.
General Purpose
Assists the Emergency Room Coordinator to ensure that administration, management, and clinical services of the Emergency Department are in compliance with certification and accreditation standards by providing high quality professional nursing service to patients within the Emergency Room following physician's orders and Russell Regional Hospital Emergency Room Policies and Procedures.
Qualifications
Education:
Licensure as a Registered Nursing in the State of Kansas. Must maintain current ACLS, BLS, PALS and TNCC Certification. CCRN Certification preferred but not necessary. Ability to speak, write, and understand English.
Experience:
Two years of previous experience working in the Intensive Care Unit and Emergency Department The incumbent should have sufficient in-service and orientation regarding Nursing and Emergency Department Policies and Procedures before starting to work independently. Must have the ability to maintain patient and Hospital confidentiality and must have the ability to react calmly in crisis situations.
Job Knowledge:
Ability to communicate with persons of various backgrounds in a tactful, courteous manner. Must have comprehensive, timely knowledge of nursing theory and practice and be able to incorporate such knowledge in all conditions varying from the usual to the extraordinary and emergency. Demonstrates excellence in any area of the Intensive Care Unit an Emergency Department

Essential Job Functions
Assessment:
Ability to assess the health status of all patients immediately upon arrival in the Emergency Room.
Ability to obtain pertinent history and patient assessment and complete appropriate forms correctly.
Ability to chart patient information accurately.
Ability to interpret and organize data and communicate data by verbalizing pertinent information to physicians and other health care personnel.
Planning:
Ability to identify the patient's present and potential problems from the patient assessment.
Ability to formulate desired outcomes, specific to the patient problems and established norms.
Implementation:
Ability to implement actions based on patient status, physician orders, and Russell Regional Hospital Emergency Room Policies and Procedures.
Ability to supervise personnel assisting in the Emergency Room.
Ability to act rapidly and efficiently. Manages self, patients and other employees during any emergency situation.
Ability to know the location and how to operate all ER equipment and supplies.
Ability to demonstrate knowledge of Life Flight evacuation procedures.
Ability to follow established Code Blue procedures and standing orders.
Ability to appropriately direct legal matters or publicity to the proper source.
Ability to assist in keeping department clean and organized, and restock supplies as indicated.
Ability to refer patients to Front Office so that necessary paperwork can be completed and charges can be collected, or, in the event that the Front Office is closed, collects adequate registration information and payment for services incurred.
Ability to teach and instruct patient and/or family in care of patients.
Ability to attend Nursing Service Meetings and other meetings as requested, developing and delivering in-service education as assigned.
Ability to adhere to established Personnel Policies and Procedures.
Evaluation:
Ability to evaluate achievement or lack of achievement of desired outcomes, reassess and revises the care plan.
Evaluation regarding competency relative to ages of patients treated.
