Community Service Tax Credit Program /
Digital Mammography Project

What are Tax Credits?

Kansas Tax Credits are a way for someone to virtually eliminate the cost of making a donation to a charitable cause. The tax credit program also gives the tax payer control and lets people decide what programs their state tax dollars will support. Each year, since 1994, the state awards Kansas tax credits to specially selected non-profit organizations. These non-profit, organizations can then offer state tax credits to a business or individual who makes a donation toward their project. If Selected, Russell Regional Hospital can fund most of the cost of the Digital Mammography with this program.

Who is Eligible to Receive a Tax Credit?

Anyone that pays Kansas State Income Tax can receive a tax credit. This includes individuals and businesses (corporations, banks, trust companies, or savings and loan association, and insurance companies.)

How It Works

Let's Say you have state tax liability in 2007 of $1400.00 and you want all of the income tax you paid, the entire $1400.00, to go to this project. You can donate $2,000.00, and receive a state income tax credit of 70% of your total donation($1,400.00). In other words, you are sending your state tax dollars to our hospital instead of Topeka. But that's not all. The $2,000 donation is fully deductible on your federal taxes, so if you are in the 30% tax bracket your donation to the project costs you nothing. Not one dollar! Here's how it works:

Your donation $2,000
70% State Income Tax Credit
(70% of total donation is eligible for a tax credit)
$1,400
Federal Income Tax Credit
$2,000 X 30% (Your Tax Bracket)
$600
Total Cost to You of Your Gift
$0

Simply put, you are putting your state and federal tax dollars to work in your community rather than sending them off to Topeka and Washington, D.C. If this makes sense to you, please support our project with a support letter and a pledge.

Better Images.....
Longer Lives

Digital Mammography can supply images with greater resolution and be manipulated to more clearly define a potentially lethal abnormality in breast tissue. Image quality is key to early detection. Technologists don't have to leave the patients side to check films or confer with the radioligist. They also have the ability to respond immediatly to positioning or exposure issues as they compare new and previous images. The images will then be transferred electronically to the radiologist who can read the films and send the patient's physician results in a very timely fashion.

Integrated computer aided detection (CAD) software quickly and efficiently displays areas thatmay warrant closer attention or a second review.

In women younger than 50, digital mammography detected approximately 15%-28% more cancers. In women with dense breast, digital mammography picked up 15% more cancers -- a significant finding, as women with dense breasts tend to be a higher risk for breast cancer. In premenopausal women, digital mammography detected 21% more cancers.
